Exotic and sweet, jasmine is a highly sought after oil.
Exorbitantly expensive in its pure form, it’s not uncommon to find “cut” or
synthetic versions on the market. These variants are beneficial as well| as
affordable. Jasmine’s historic use goes back centuries. In ancient India, jasmine
was (and still is) used for for ceremonial purposes. The Chinese used jasmine
to cleanse the atmosphere that surrounded the sick. A good hostess also made
sure to have jasmine on hand to give to inebriated guests to clear their heads.
Modern uses for jasmine include childbirth, depression, respiration, and
fertility.
Therapeutic uses:
Confidence, coughs,
depression, energy, fertility, labor, libido, menstrual pain, muscle spasm and
sprains, nervousness, optimism, postnatal depression, lactation, respiration
problems, skin care, tension, vitality and voice loss.
Essential Oil Applications:
To restore
confidence, energy, optimism, and vitality, use 3-5 drops in a diffuser. Can
also add 8-10 drops to bath water.
For coughs,
especially the lingering kind, use 3-5 drops in a steam inhalation.
To alleviate
depression, nervousness, and tension, use 3-5 drops in a diffuser. Can also add
8-10 drops to bath water.
To promote male
fertility, use regularly in massage (3-5 drops mixed with 1 ounce of carrier
oil). Can also add 8-10 drops to bath water use 3-5 drops in a diffuser.
A bath made with
8-10 drops of oil will help relieve headache, premenstrual syndrome, stress,
and tension.
To help strengthen
contractions during childbirth and relieve labor pain, use 3-5 drops in a
diffuser placed in birthing room. Do not start diffusing oil until labor is well-advanced.
When lactating,
jasmine will help promote the flow of breast milk. Use 8-10 drops in bath
water, or 3-5 drops in a blended massage oil regularly. Can also use 8 drops in
a diffuser.
To promote libido in
both men and women, use 5 drops in a diffuser, or 8-10 drops in bath water.
For muscle spasms
and sprains, mix 5 drops with 1 ounce of carrier oil, and massage on affected
areas.
For postnatal
depression, mix 3-5 drops in 1 ounce of carrier oil and massage on body. Can
also add 8-10 drops to bath water, or use 3-5 drops in a diffuser.
To use as a skin
tonic for all skin types, mix a few drops with an application of unscented face
lotion. Can also mix with lavender, tangerine, and a carrier oil for a blend
that can encourage cell growth and increase elasticity.
To help relieve
stress and tension, use 2-3 drops in a diffuser or lamp ring. Can also use 20
drops in 1 ounce of carrier oil for a relaxing massage.
For respiratory
problems, use 5 drops in a steam inhalation. Especially good for deepening
breathing, and calming spasms of the bronchi.
